After a hard slog on the alcohol at Kathrine and Rachels house warming, Sunday was a series of banging headaches and random sleeps. I was rung up by old friends and theater companions Mary and Rainsford of 'The Chapel of ChAnge', on the eve and today, Monday was spend out on their beautiful land moving a 'DAnce floor' from A to B. It took allday, lifting and heaving, hard slog of a different kind. All this is comparable to trying to blog on slow speed internet.
If you were to happen accross our BUTOH class you may think you were in a mental hospital, but for us its quite normal. It was good to get back into some deep movement this Saturday morning with familiar bodys. We are in preperation for BBO6 the performance we do once a year.THis time its in the grand Fitzroy town hall and is entitled 'Sweeping the dust'. The performance will be six hours long, so today we were practicing 'presence' for length of time. Tony Yap is dancer extrodinare and was todays teacher.
This eve i went to a peview of Nicola Gunn's lastest show 'Lost Property Office'. She is one of my favourite performers and the work is very beautiful indeed. Solo, mime with words, an english victorian edge, funny and dark too.All those favourite things! Im in awe of her talent. I did a workshop with her once. I feel like i know a famous person.
I had a cold today. The day was a hot one. After life modeling in St kilda i rode down the coast a bit and found myself a quiet little beachette all to myself. I read my book, went for cooling swims, lay there and got sunburt for 4 hours.Ahhh the good life. On the way home i spent half my modeling pay on a Thai seafood tom yum soup. I was dribbling sweat into the bowl by the end. Ahhh the good life!
Posted to me by my friend XEro, an article on camouflage technology. This picture is only half the story! Dispite the military implications it will likly be a hit within Rave culture, when available. Im back to slow speed internet untill the end of the month. (Telstra, who advertise 'unlimited downloads',tell lies!) so posting on the blog takes a 1000 years.
Out of the blue, i scored two tickets to 'I La Galigo', an Indonesian Opera , last night. After using up all my cell phone credit trying to get someone else to come, i had to settle for an empty seat beside me which turned out to be ok , the show being 3 hours long. It was SO wonderful, an epic story of twins, love, adventure, loss, and reconciliation, with live muic and grand staging. It was beautiful. It was magic. A glimpse of the 'upper world'
I spent a little of my savings on some Shoes for Lonewolf today. They are hand made, dancing shoes with a 'cubian' heel. It was fun going in and paying in Full. A real 'speak easy' thing to do. I get them in two weeks. { the picture --> is what they look like, more or less}. I had seen the style in the shop window for over a year and was always having wishfull thoughts.Today I finally did it, like some scene in a 20's movie.
Out of the blue i got 2 tickets to see 'Monumental' a solo dance piece by Ros Warby, one of Australias leading dancers/choreographers, at the Playhouse, in the Arts center. It also contained moving image and film. It must have been one of THE most beautiful dances i have ever seen. Mixing Swan lake and 'soldier' imagery with a back drop of birds. Theres really no words to describe it. A refined work of art...and everso wonderfull.
